Japanese Sashiko Textiles

Sashiko is a traditional form of Japanese embroidery. This touring exhibition is the first major exhibition of sashiko textiles ever to be held in the UK.

Sumiko Okubo exhibition at the Riverside Gallery

A free exhibition featuring recent works by internationally acclaimed artist Sumiko Okubo. Combining an array of printmaking techniques from etching, acquaint to collograph, Sumiko’s vibrant, intricate works fuse the luminous, misty style of the Korin School and European modernism.

Okubo explores the archetypal themes of the changing seasons, the elements and the joy of the natural world. Spiritual, metaphysical — this exhibition is not to be missed.

The Way of Tea Special Event

1.30–2.20 pm, East Foyer: Matcha tasting (Japanese powdered green tea). No pre-booking.

2.30–3.30 pm, BP Lecture Theatre: Machida Soryu will deliver an illustrated talk and presentation of the Way of Tea (chado) according to the Urasenke tradition.
