Yoko Nakamura

Yoko Nakamura was born in Kamakura, Japan in 1985 and started to learn the piano at an early age. In 1998, she was invited to perform at the International Music Day Memorial Festival in Tokyo promoted by the Agency for Cultural Affairs in Japan. Between 2000 and 2003, Yoko studied at Tokyo College of Music Senior High School, and performed at the Tokyo Opera City Recital Hall during this period. Yoko has been successful in many national and international competitions. These include the special award at Takasaki International Competition in Japan (2001), the first prize at Nisshin International Competition in Tokyo (2002), the first prize of Piano Premier Cup at North London Festival (2005). She was a finalist in the RCM Concerto Competition (2007) performing the Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1.

Yoko has performed at various venues include concerts at Kirara Koshigoe Hall in Japan (appeared on local newspapers "Shonan Asahi" and "Kanagawa paper"), and many venues in London such as Chappells YAMAHA Piano Hall (as a RCM’s representative in Conservatoire concert series), Regent Hall, Steinway Hall, National Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum, St George’s Church Hanover Square, Wesley’s Chapel, St Wilfrid’s Chelsea, St Mary Abbots Church in Kensington, Hinde Street Church in Marylebone, Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, St Michael’s Church Chester Square, Claremont Centre in Islington, the Finchcocks Music Museum in Kent and at the Harlequin Theatre in Surrey. As one of the artists of the Concordia Foundation, Yoko was highly acclaimed for her recitals at St James’s Church in Piccadilly and St Martin-in-the-Fields this year.

Yoko has studied piano with Yukiko Hibiya, Izumi Furukawa, Teruji Karashima, Ko Koshimura, Niel Immelman, Kevin Kenner, and accompaniment with Nigel Clayton.

The church of St. Dunstan in the West dates back to circa 1070 AD, and the present building was completed in the early 19th century.
